Record-Breaking Weekend for Sandburg Women’s Golf at Augustana Highland Classic

The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team put together a record-breaking performance at the Augustana Highland Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Highland Springs.
The Chargers set program records for lowest 18-hole team score and lowest 36-hole team score on their way to placing fifth in a field of eight teams that featured Sandburg as the only community college.
Sandburg shot a school-record 340 in Saturday’s opening round and nearly matched that with a 341 on Sunday for a 36-hole score of 681.
Sophomore Emily Franzoni (Canton, Ill./Canton) paced the Chargers both days by posting consecutive rounds of 81, placing her in a tie for 12th overall. Freshman Jaeden Workman (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) matched Franzoni’s 81 in the first round and added an 85 on Sunday. Her score of 166 tied her for 19th.
Sophomore Haley Guilinger (Thomson, Ill./West Carroll) placed 29th with rounds of 90 and 82, and freshman Madison Newton (Erie, Ill./Erie) had her scores of 88 and 93 count for both days.
Renee Scheider (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) shot 96-103, and Kaylyn Stearns (Gilson, Ill./Gilson) shot 119-133 for the Chargers.
William Penn took the team title with a two-day total of 617 (312-305), beating host Augustana by 19 strokes. William Penn’s Elise Warne shot 152 (77-75) to win medalist honors by two shots.
Sandburg will continue its season with the Fighting Scots Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Gibson Woods in Monmouth.
